This is the view from my hotel room: the fountain in the lake in the middle of Stavanger is one of it's calling cards.
This is another view of the lake taken from the street level.
Here's the old Lutheran church in the center of town; the walls are VERY thick, so even though it looks good-sized on the outside, on the inside it's quite small.
Here's a picture of the open plaza-type area in front of the church and by the Old Town, looking out toward the harbor.
And here is a street representative of the streets in the Old Town. There are small shops all along in the Old Town selling all sorts of stuff. As a side note, the restaurant on the left (Vertshuset) is the infamous reindeer restaurant where I've ingested half of Santa's reindeer crew...if I keep going to Norway Santa won't have any left at the rate I'm going.
So this being Scandanavia, if you can't drive traffic the old-fashioned way, just make your manequinns topless and that'll be SURE to increase traffic! Every manequinn in the store was topless...and they were that way all week. No info available on whether or not there was an increase in sales.
Here is the start of 'restaurant row' in front of the harbor. And yes, that is a 7-Eleven there -
they're all over the place and the only place you can get Dr. Pepper in Norway (7-Eleven is a Dallas-based company after all, just like Dr. Pepper). The only problem is it tastes terrible because they use some other sweetener. And it's made in the Czech Republic - not famous for its high quality standards.
And here's a view of the harbor looking out to the North Sea. There's a bunch of islands right outside Stavanger, b
Anyway, hope this visual tour is interesting. At the very least it should give you a mental image of where I spend my time in Norway!
It looks very clean and sunny! A nice place to live.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing some pics. Maybe we'll plan a trip up there one of these days... We are kind of drawn by the south though so it may be a while :). As I said earlier, counting down the weeks...
